EgyptianSoccer.com - After
losing their manager Farouk Gaafar, Mahala are in danger of losing
their players. Mahala became the target of richer clubs after the team
successfully finished their league campaign in fourth place and reached
the semifinals of the Egyptian Cup.
Mahala are offering their
star players 70 thousand pounds for renewing their contracts per year.
The less fortunate players such as defender Ashraf Kabonga are being
offered only 50 thousand pounds per year. Both the stars and the
defenders refused the club’s offers and sent the management an
ultimatum: either raise their salaries or the players will move to
other clubs. Striker Ramadan Ragab and winger Hossam El-Shirbeeni are
both asking for 150 thousand pounds per year, a sum they claim other
clubs such as Goldi and league newcomers Inby are offering the players.
Mahala’s
problems don’t end at the players’ whose contracts end this season.
Players with running contracts such as Hossam Abdelaal, Ashraf Sheeha
and star keeper Nasser Farouk all asked to be put on the transfer list.
It seems that many players had ties with former manager Gaafar and
which to follow his steps and leave the club. It won’t be a surprise if
we find two or three Mahala players in the yellow shirt next season
under Gaafar’s management in Ismaily. The first to join Gaafar in
Ismaileya was his assistant and youth team coach Ghanem Soltan. Soltan
will be responsible for the youth teams in Ismaily.
Unless
Mahala can find a way to generate the money needed for the new
contracts, the club that finished in the top four this season may very
well be fighting relegation next year.
